TOKYO, Jan. 7 (Xinhua) -- Two U.S. Marine soldiers based in southern Japan's Okinawa prefecture were arrested Monday by local police for assaulting a taxi driver early in the morning, Kyodo News reported.
Corporal Joseph Riddle and another 19-year-old soldier refused to pay after riding a taxi in Okinawa city and assaulted the driver with a whiskey bottle, injuring the driver on the head and the shoulder, and ran away. Both were arrested by police at about one km from the spot, the report said.
Seventy-five percent of Japan-based U.S. army are located in Okinawa, where hosted a total of 37 U.S. army bases and facilities. Local residents were annoyed and sometimes enraged by crimes involving U.S. military personnel.
